Ash - fraxinus
The top half of the wood sample is unfinished and the lower half is finished with clear semi-gloss polyurethane.
The ash group is composed of two principal species. White ash (F. americana) and green ash (F. pennsylvanica). White ash is shown here. The wood of these two species is difficult to distinguish, and all are marketed as ash or white ash. The sapwood of ash is very light in color, while the heartwood is brown. Typically has a high resistance to shock. Ash is somewhat lustrous, heavy and straight-grained. |
